Yes as a ThatMob Minecraft horror series, and playable adaptations now exist. “Real,” “official,” and “safe” are different claims, so each one needs its own evidence.
The original Verity story comes from ThatMob's videos. The current CurseForge Verity JE page claims explicit ThatMob permission; ThatMob's own CurseForge profile lists the project, and a July 13 cast video links to it. Other pages may be independent fan projects or unofficial mobile apps.

There is no Mojang or Microsoft Verity release. A project can still be creator-approved if ThatMob is visibly involved or grants permission.

Use the right definition
No. Verity is not a Mojang or Microsoft release. In this topic, “official” is usually being used to mean authorized by ThatMob, the creator behind the video series. That is why a page should name the person or team making the claim and link to the exact project rather than saying “official” without context.
The safest wording is source-specific: “The Verity JE CurseForge page says it was published with explicit ThatMob permission.” This can be checked. A copied download button on another domain cannot inherit that claim.
Why answers conflict
Early explainers were written before the current wave of playable projects appeared. At that point, the accurate answer was that the videos were entertainment and no verified public project had been established. Search results changed faster than many articles were updated.
